Grace Bible Baptist Elementary School

Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome to Second Grade! I am looking forward to a great year. My name is Miss Cindy Johnson and I have been teaching at Grace since 1989. I grew up in a Christian home and asked the Lord to come into my heart when I was six years old. I have a younger brother named Jonathan who is in Heaven with Jesus. My older brother, Earl, lives in Florida and my sister Sherry teaches First Grade here at Grace.

At my home I have a Yorkie named Corky, a Poodle named Rocky, a Fox Terrier named Shirley, and a calico cat named Callie. We have three guinea pigs that love being our classroom pets. Their names are Ellie, Taffy, and Chip.  The children love spending time with them. We also have a leopard gecko named Meshach and three goldfish.

This year the jungle is our classroom theme.

Our class verse is Psalm 34:10

“The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”  Our goal is to follow the Lord in everything we do and say.  If we are obedient to God, then He will honor our faithfulness.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year as we learn and grow together.

SPIDER DAY

Recently the students did their first report in Second Grade. Each student chose a specific spider to report on. On Spider Day everyone had an opportunity to share what they learned with the class.

At the close of the day, the children all made their own unique spiders out of a cupcake and a donut hole.

FIELD TRIP
We had our first field trip this November. We spent the day learning about colonial life on a tobacco farm in
Accokeek, Maryland.  In spite of the rain, we had a wonderful time experiencing colonial life. Our hostess introduced the program by showing us pictures and getting us excited about some of the things that we would do and see.

We broke into three separate groups and rotated through three different learning stations.

At one station we learned how to get wool ready to be made into yarn.

Tiffany carding wool.

Myinda' and Dwaine watch as one of the station leaders demonstrates a way to twist wool into yarn.

William, Dwaine and Jeremiah take turns carding wool.

At the next station we learned about the clothing that colonists wore. The students had fun dressing up as early colonists.

Nylah, Jeremiah, Autumn and Dwaine dressed up as 1700 colonists.

Nylah, Kayla and Autumn as colonial girls.

Kayla poses with some of her modern day friends, Tiffany and Amethyst.

At the third station, students had fun playing with early colonial toys and then playing a fun game.

Myinda', William and Amethyst all take a turn.

Our learning adventure had just begun. We headed outdoors despite the rain and puddles. We passed some animals in the pasture

We were invited into the out-kitchen by Mr. Bolton.

"Welcome to my out-kitchen."                       "Good day friends!"

Mr. Bolton talked to us about his family and the hard life on the farm.

If families would like to learn more about Accokeek they can visit the web site at www.accokeek.org.  That's All Folks!
